WSP has provided DFN-based consultancy to various industries, since the early days of the discrete fracture network approach. Technological advances within the industry plus FracMan software enhancements provide WSP’s clients with best-in-class workflow solutions that increase process efficiency and project success! As always, our global team of geologists, engineers and software developers are continually exploring innovations and best practices to add to the Fracman suite. FracMan software has been successfully applied to these core market sectors.
WSP is a pioneer in the use of the Discrete Fracture Network (DFN) approach to solve mining characterization and engineering challenges.
By building geologically realistic models of the rock mass structure, DFN models can accurately capture both the geometry and connectivity of the fracture network, as well as the geometry of the associated rock blocks. DFN models are stochastic models, so the probabilistic likelihood of an occurrence such as block instability, or block size, or occurrence, can be determined through the generation of multiple realizations of the same statistically identical DFN model descriptions. Most importantly, DFN models provide a clear and reproducible route from site investigation and data acquisition to geotechnical modeling, because real fracture geometries and properties are preserved throughout the modeling process.
